100% OF EVERY RACK-A-THON DOLLAR WILL BE USED TO
PURCHASE, TRANSPORT AND DISTRIBUTE FOOD
Foodbanking has changed dramatically in the last ten years. In 2004, the Hawaii Foodbank only had to purchase 1% of the food we distributed. For the last several years, we have had to purchase over 20% of the food distributed each year in order to keep up with the demand. In 2016, we expect to distribute over 12 million pounds of food through a network of over200 member agencies that will provide food for over 9.4 million meals to people in need of assistance. We expect to spend more than $900,000 on purchasing and shipping food. In order to continue to meet the growing need for our services, your help is essential for us to purchase the food needed to fill the gap between donated food items and the increasing community need for healthy, nutritious meals.
The RACK-A-THON campaign to fill our warehouse shelves is an opportunity for our Sponsor Organizations to do just that. By participating in this initiative, an organization can make a contribution to the Hawaii Foodbank that will be restricted to food purchasing only; 100% of every dollar contributed will be used to purchase, transport and distribute food to Hawaii's hungry.
This food will go to help feed families and individuals who are finding it hard to make ends meet, seeking a job, securing housing or are dealing with overwhelming personal or medical challenges. RACK-A-THON donations will ensure food will flow into our warehouse and out to the people in Hawaii who need it the most.
